Why did “private” prison stocks soar the day after Trump got elected?

It is almost like people in the industry knew something that the public didn’t. The former Attorney General Yates said that private prisons would be phased out. So before any cabinet members had been announced, why were stockholders betting that private prisons would not be phased out after all?

It could just be Trump’s tough on crime stance in general. But something else happened days earlier that suggests Washington insiders already knew what was going to happen.

Update: President Trump invoked the wrath of God and good versus evil in his Saudi Arabia address, declaring that terrorists "worship death" rather than any religion. The president said if people do not act against this organized terror, then "we know what will happen and what will be the end result." He said peaceful societies will become "engulfed in violence."

Taking to the Senate floor Tuesday under a veil of earnest hyperbole common among those who fall under the “geriatric” label, Senator Chuck Schumer of New York uttered a plea to his Senate colleagues.

“The country is being tested in unprecedented ways,” Senator Schumer said. “I say to all of my colleagues in the Senate: History is watching.”
