In a speech that struck all the right platitudes with this pro-globalization audience, Xi Jinping, the first Chinese president to attend Davos, slammed protectionism, defended globalization and free trade, drawing a line between himself and Donald Trump just days before the US president-elect’s inaugural address in Washington, and said he has no intent to boost China's competitiveness through Yuan devaluation.

For those unfamiliar with what goes on at the annual January boondoggle at the World Economic Forum in Davos, here is the simple breakdown.

Officially, heads of state, captains of industry, prominent academics, philanthropists and a retinue of journalists, celebrities and hangers-on will descend Tuesday on the picturesque alpine village of Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum;

One of the reasons behind the first ever visit by a Chinese president to next week's Davos boondoggle is that, as reported last week, president Xi was open to a meeting with US president-elect Donald Trump’s team, if clearly not the president-elect himself, who will be far busier on January 20 - the day the World Economic Forum in Davos ends - getting inaugurated.

It is difficult to say exactly how, or when, the next collapse will be triggered, but, as SHTFPlan.com's Mac Slavo notes, of course all the conditions are ripe for it.

What can be certain is that the technocrats intent on controlling the future are already engineering the post-collapse society. Many of the Davos elite have been pushing “universal basic income” for all countries across the globe, and are leading people not only into a digital grid where cash is banned, but also into a society where private property and ownership are outlawed.

 

On the surface, relations between China's president Xi and Donald Trump have had a rocky start even before the president-elect's inauguration, with speculation about a trade war, tariffs, the collapse of the "One China" policy, the confiscation of a US naval drone, fly-bys over disputed islands, and non-stop jingoist bluster dominating the airwaves and local press. However, that may be merely bluster as the two leaders gradually warm up to each other, ironically, at a very cold place: Switzerland's World Economic Form held, as every other year, in Davos.
