Bodies Of Climbers Alex Lowe & David Bridges Found In Melting Glacier

The remains of renowned American mountain climber Alex Lowe and his companion cameraman David Bridges have been found partially melting out of a glacier on Shishapangma, Tibet. The two climbers disappeared in a Himalayan avalanche 16 years ago while attempting to ascend the 14th highest mountain in the world. Alex Lowe’s widow put out a statement on Friday saying that the remains were discovered by two climbers attempting an ascend of the 26,291-foot mountain.

CSX Freight Train Derails In Washington D.C., 9 Cars Overturned, Hazardous Material Leaking

A CSX freight train has derailed in Washington D.C.., near the Rhode Island Avenue Metro station Sunday morning leaving several cars overturned and resulting in a leak of hazardous materials.

Doug Buchannan, a spokesman for the D.C fire department, said as many as nine cars have derailed and at least three are leaking hazardous material. The incident happened at 6:40 a.m. Sunday.

Lightning Strikes Heathrow Bound Planes

A British Airways plane travelling from Prague to London’s Heathrow airport was struck by lightening and the moment was captured on film by a photographer. Joe reports: Footage recorded on the ground by photographer Aled Rhys Jones captured the moment the plane was struck by lightning just after 8pm. Aled Rhys Jones YouTube video: A number of passengers flying into London reported lightning strikes on Twitter on Wednesday evening, but there were no reports of any damage to any planes affected.

Russia Launches Soyuz Rocket From New Cosmodrome

Russia conducted the first ever rocket launch from its brand new Vostochny cosmodrome. On Thursday, a Soyuz 2.1a rocket blasted off from the civilian cosmodrome in Russia’s far east, on the 51st parallel north in the Amur Oblast. Three scientific research satellites were successfully boosted into orbit by a Soyuz 2.1a rocket after a first attempt was aborted a day earlier by an automated safety control system at the last minute.
