A strong 6.8 magnitude quake has struck of the coast of California, some 165km west of Ferndale, CA. The quake was not near the San Andreas fault however according to USGS data, it took place on top of the Gorda Estrapment divide.

A Pakistani Airways plane carrying 48 people has crashed in the country’s northern mountainous region . According to the civil aviation authority, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Flight PK661 came down during a flight from the city of Chitral to Islamabad. Earlier it had been reported that the flight lost contact with ground control and was missing shortly after taking off from the northern city of Chitral today.
A powerful earthquake has rocked northern Indonesia leaving as many as 97 people dead and several hundred injured. The magnitude 6.5 quake struck off the coast of Sumatra Island in the early hours of Wednesday, where dozens of buildings have collapsed and many people are feared trapped under rubble. The US Geological Survey said the quake struck just offshore at 05:03 local time (22:03 GMT Tuesday) at a depth of 8km. A rescue operation is under way in the Aceh province and the casualty count is expected to increase.
Three weeks after a Russian fighter jet crashed in the Mediterranean Sea shortly after launching from its aircraft carrier near the coast of Syria, overnight a fighter jet based on the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov skid off the deck during landing and became lost at sea after an arrestor gear line snapped and failed to stop the aircraft, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

A study by a team of international scientists claims that there is a fundamental relationship between mercury and autism. Their research results show that children with autism spectrum disorder had significantly higher levels of mercury when compared with healthy control children They found that those children with the highest levels of mercury had the most severe autism symptoms.
