Burlington College Closing Due To "Crushing Debt" Incurred Under Presidency Of Bernie Sanders' Wife

In what may or may not be a harbinger of things to come should Bernie Sanders become president, earlier today Burlington College, a small Vermont private school once led by the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, said Monday it will close later this month, citing "the crushing weight" of debt incurred during the president of Jane Sanders who was president of the college until 2011.

The 2000 Boston Massacre

I recently went back to take a look at a piece I did in the year 2000 for the Weekly Standard, about a huge controversy then in Boston. It is astonishing from the viewpoint of 2016 to observe how all of this was a trial run for what’s happening across the nation now. I’m going to quote from it at length. It’s prophetic:

Why Not Close Humanities Departments?

A reader who identifies himself as a tenured college professor in a STEM field at a state university, who remains closeted as a conservative out of fear, writes to say that he holds humanities degrees, but:

I’m a long time reader but am writing for the first time to ask a question.  You write:

“There are some readers, apparently, who believe that I really do advocate closing down the university humanities departments. Honestly, people. Honestly.”

My question is, why on earth not?
