There is no doubt that a disaster big enough to wipe out humanity exists – the threat of an EMP, a plague-level outbreak event, a total nuclear war, it doesn’t really matter what it is. Even if there were survivors, the larger forces at work will undo the artificial forms that now dot the landscape and define our culture.

Pomtato: Scientists Create Plant The Grows Ketchup and Fries

Scientists have unveiled the world’s first genetically engineered plant capable of growing ketchup and fries – together.  A group of scientists in the Netherlands said they spent six years in developing a plant that is capable of growing both potatoes and tomatoes, lovingly nicknamed the ‘pomtato plant‘. Theblaze.com reports: Thompson and Morgan, the firm that commissioned the study, found an all-natural way to combine the two foods by grafting plant stems to a width that is capable of supporting both tomatoes and potatoes, Buzz60 reported.

Refugees Drown In Mediterranean As Another Boat Sinks

A boat carrying hundreds of refugees in the Mediterranean has capsized and sunk near Crete. Four migrants were reported dead by Greek officials on Friday. The Independent reports: Around 340 people have been rescued so far, with four bodies recovered, but more were feared to remain missing south of the Greek island of Crete. “The number of people in distress could be counted in the hundreds,” a spokeswoman for the coastguard told the AFP news agency.

Elk Charges Woman Taking Selfie At Yellowstone

An Elk in Yellowstone National Park charged a female visitor after she got too close to the wild animal. The woman hoping to capture a photo with the Elk inched her way close to the animal for a selfie shot. She was charged by the Elk after failing to abide by park rules that stipulate keeping a safe distance from and showing respect to wildlife. abc News reports: National Park visitation is at record highs, Jeffrey Olson, a spokesman for the National Park Service, told ABC News.
