Man Caught With Smuggled Turtles In His Pants Given Probation

An Ontario man caught smuggling nearly 40 turtles in his trousers while crossing into Canada has been given a two year probation with a fine of $3,500 and banned from owning any turtles for 10 years. The Globe and Mail reports: Dong Yan of Windsor, Ont., was convicted earlier this month of illegally importing reptiles into Canada that were transported in contravention of a foreign state’s law. During an inspection at the Niagara border crossing on June 11, 2014, Canada Border Services Agency officials discovered 38 turtles strapped to Yan’s legs.

‘Bespoke’ Satellite Tag Project Abandoned At £23M Cost To Taxpayer

The plan to use ‘bespoke’ tags to monitor criminals via GPS satellites has been abandoned by the Tories after the project ran into technical difficulties, costing the taxpayer up to £23 million. Ministers will now look to use available off-the-shelf technologies to achieve their goals. The Telegraph reports: Ministers wanted to develop their own “bespoke” tags to monitor offenders on release or bail via GPS. But a string of delays and problems has forced the Ministry of Justice to abandon the scheme.

ISIS Leaders Arrested By Masked Gunman

ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi  reportedly ordered the arrest of some his top lieutenants near Mosul, on charges of treason. Iraqi News reports: Nineveh – Media officials with the Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday, that the so-called ‘masked terrorist’ arrested dozens of prominent ISIS leaders on charges of treason, while pointed out that the arrest operations were carried out by orders of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
