One day after Donald Trump unleashed turmoil in the municipal market, launching a selling avalanche in Puerto Rico GO bonds which crashed to all time lows, shortly after the president signaled an openness to wipe out Puerto Rico's debts during an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, the White House has thrown cold water on the prospect of Trump forgiving Puerto Rico debt.

Echoing President Obama's interference in the legal bondholder process of the General Motors bankruptcy, President Trump's comments that Puerto Rico's debt "will be wiped out" yesterday has sparked a bloodbath in PR Muni bonds. Puerto Rico's 8s of 2035 have plunging to a record low 35 cents on the dollar this morning from 44 yesterday, as bondholders fled hitting any bid, worried that Trump would follow through on his warning.

Puerto Rican authorities are blaming the White House for not properly responding to the disaster caused by Hurricane Maria. Trump, in turn, tweeted that about the poor leadership within Puerto Rico and claimed the politicians were just trying to score political points.

There have been unverified reports that officials in Puerto Rico were, in fact, holding back supplies unless there were accompanying photo opportunities.

Donald Trump's feud with San Juan mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz got an unexpected reinforcement today, when Former Puerto Rico Attorney General Jose Fuentes, a Republican, on Sunday took aim at Cruz, accusing her of attacking President Trump and using hurricane relief efforts to lay the groundwork for a gubernatorial bid.

Speaking on CNN's "New Day", Fuentes accused Cruz of making an about-face, saying she supported Trump just a few days ago, until her political adviser suggested the idea of running for governor.
