Data & Discussion

The data for this visualization comes from Forbes. It identifies the most innovative companies by evaluating them based on an “innovation premium”, which is the difference between a company’s market value and the net present value of its existing (non-innovative) business.

This premium is weighted over a multi-year period, and reveals how much investors are effectively betting on a company’s future innovation.

America’s Most Innovative Companies

Following ServiceNow are several other enterprise software firms, including Workday and Salesforce. Both companies are integrating artificial intelligence into their platforms—Workday to enhance workforce and financial planning, and Salesforce to power AI-driven customer relationship management.

International Leaders in Innovation

Looking outside the U.S., Forbes ranked several Asian firms in the top 25.

This includes Naver, the dominant internet platform in South Korea. The company is currently pushing its HyperClova X large language models (LLM).

Trained using 6,500 times more Korean data than GPT-4, HyperCLOVA X scores exceptionally well in understanding Korean culture and its social norms and values, allowing it to generate responses that resonate with Koreans.
Clova

Next is CP All, the operator of Thailand’s 7-Eleven chain. The company invests heavily in logistics, retail automation, and process innovation to modernize its business.

A third example is Tencent, one of China’s biggest tech conglomerates with operations in social media, video games, cloud computing, and fintech. Tencent is investing aggressively in R&D, and it has one of the world’s largest patent portfolios in AI.
