More Americans Support Trump’s Refugee Ban Than Oppose It

A new poll suggests that more Americans support President Trump’s executive order to impose a temporary block on Muslim immigrants than those who don’t. A Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released Tuesday suggests that United States is equally divided over the ban along party lines, with the majority agreeing rather than disagreeing. The poll asked “do you agree or disagree with the executive order that President Trump signed blocking refugees and banning people from seven Muslim majority countries from entering the U.S.?“ 49 per cent of the respondents agreed with the policy, as opposed to 41 per cent who disagreed. AOL News reports: “This is not about religion,” Trump said in a statement after announcing the travel ban on Friday. “This is about terror and keeping our country safe.” In the Reuters/Ipsos poll some 31 percent of people said the ban made them feel “more safe,” while 26 percent said it made them feel “less safe.” Another 33 percent said it would not make any difference and the rest said they don’t know. Trump’s executive order blocked citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen and placed an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees.
