I am one of those who thinks that democracy is being destroyed.  I know its fashionable to play cynical one-upmanship and say – ‘we’ve never had democracy’, or, ‘it was destroyed long ago’,  but that game aside, I think its worth actually thinking about how, many forms of democratic expression, effective dissent and peaceful self-determination are being buried.

A dedicated Japanese gamer left his Nintendo Super Famicom (Super Nintendo) switched on for two decades, in case he might need to resume his favorite saved game. Gamer Wanikun saved the Japanese game Umihara Kawase on his machine for 180,000 hours. IGN News reports: As reported by Rocket News 24 (via Nerdist), the game came out in 1994, and some game cartridges back then had a static RAM partnered with lithium ion batteries. If the batteries stayed charged, your game would stay saved.

An expecting couple nearly had a fit when they saw the ultrasound images of their unborn baby for the first time.  Their baby wasn’t alone in the womb. An unexpected presence lurked behind the fetus’s head. Daily Star reports: A copy of the scan uploaded online shows the foetus reclining in mum’s tummy while the mysterious figure stands watching from one side of the image. Yet when the shocked parents asked their sonologist for reassurance, the doc could offer no answers – only saying that they had never seen anything like it.
