American Airlines Employee Suspended After Hitting Mother, Challenging Passenger To A Fight

For US airline Public Relations teams, April has been the cruelest month on record.

Less than two weeks after a 69-year-old doctor, David Dao, was hospitalized after Chicago aviation police dragged him from a United Airlines plane sparking international outrage and a public relations nightmare for the carrier, it is now American Airlines' turn to be in the spotlight after the airline suspended a male flight attendant when a video emerged showing him challenging a passenger to a fight after allegedly hitting a woman with a stroller during boarding.

In the wake of the United Airlines debacle - in which the airline had airport police assault one of its own customers - customers have begun to ask why there doesn't seem to be more competition for United to contend with. They ask: would United treat its customers so poorly if they had more competition?

United CEO Defends Staff's Violent "Reaccomodation" Of "Belligerent" Passenger

In a letter to employees, United CEO Oscar Munoz said he was "upset to see and hear about what happened," but defended his staff's actions because the passenger had been "disruptive and belligerent." It seems not acquiescing to a computer's decision to select you for 'reaccomodation' is "disruptive" and warrants violence?

As The BBC reports, Mr Munoz has faced criticism on social media for his response to the incident.

 

EgyptAir Flight From Paris To Cairo Missing, Believed To Have Crashed

An EgyptAir flight carrying 56 passengers and 10 crew members on a flight from Paris to Cairo disappeared from radar over the Mediterranean, Egypt’s national airline said. A search is underway but officials said they believed the jet went down in the sea. Sky news reports: French President Francois Hollande said “unfortunately the information we have … confirms to us the plane came down and is lost”, suggesting it crashed near the southern Greek island of Karpathos where the search is focused.
