Four Agencies To Abolish (Along With The Department Of Education)

Submitted by Ryan McMaken via The Mises Institute,

In the wake of the Senate's confirmation of the appointment of Betsy DeVos, the protests from the left prompted Republican Congressman Thomas Massie to offer them a way to get rid of DeVos: eliminate the Department of Education.

According to Massie, he'd been planning to introduce the bill for more than a year, and the controversy over DeVos appeared to be as good a time as any.

House Republican Introduces Bill To Abolish Dept. Of Education On Same Day DeVos Confirmed To Run It

In a slight bit of irony, a Republican Representative from the state of Kentucky, Thomas Massie, introduced H.R. 899, a bill written to abolish the Department of Education in it's entirety, on the same day that Vice President Pence cast the unprecedented, tie-breaking vote to confirm that department's new Secretary, Betsy DeVos

Apparently Massie is "in to the whole brevity thing" as the entire bill consists of a single sentence:

"The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2018."

US Government Caught Massively Fabricating Student Loan Default Data

US Government Caught Massively Fabricating Student Loan Default Data

Ever since 2012 we have warned that one of the biggest threats arising from the US student loan bubble - which is no longer disputed by anyone except perhaps members of the outgoing administration - is not that it is soaring at an unprecedented pace, that's obvious for anyone with the latest loan total number over $1.4 trillion, rising at a pace of nearly $100 billion per year, but that the government - either on purpose or due to honest miscalculation - was not correctly accounting for the true extent of delinquencies and defaults.

Shocking Statistic: Over 40% Of Student Borrowers Don't Make Payments

Department of Education Wonders “Why 40% of Student Borrowers Don’t Make Payments”; Blame Bush (Seriously)!

Over 40 percent of those in student loan programs have stopped making payments. Many borrowers have never made any payments.

The department of education (a useless body that I would eliminate in one second if given the chance), cannot figure out why this is happening.
