While such things are virtually impossible to verify due to the difficulty of getting “inside the caliphate” so to speak, word on the jihadist circuit is that ISIS is running short on money.
Back in June of 2014, ISIS - which at the time hadn’t yet rampaged its way into the world’s collective consciousness - took over Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city and home to more than 2 million people.
When the city fell, it became immediately apparent that the group was quite serious about its stated goal of creating a medieval caliphate and bringing Sharia Law to the entire region.
The victory wasn’t purely symbolic. ISIS fighters captured 2,300 Humvees parked in the city and looted more than $400 million from Mosul’s central bank.
ISIS fighters who fled the fighting in the Iraqi city of Ramadi and escaped to Mosul, have reportedly been burnt alive in the town’s square. Militant leaders burnt the fighters after they lost the key town to Iraqi troops recently. In a message of terror, they were burnt alive in full public view by their own men for seeking shelter in the group’s stronghold of Mosul, according to a Fox News source. Alalam reports: Residents claim the terrorists were set alight in the town’s main square in a terrifying message to other militants who may be forced to defend Mosul from an attack.
News reports indicate that the notorious ‘Slaughterer of Mosul’ has been killed during air-strikes on ISIS in Iraq. ABNA reports: Local sources in Nineveh Province report that international coalition jets pounded ISIS positions in western neighbourhoods of Mosul on Saturday, killing a notorious judge from the ISIS court. ISIS Judge Abdullah Saffah, known as Abu Hafsa, was killed during the intense aerial raid. He was responsible for implementing Law in Mosul and had sentenced scores of people to death and stoning. He was known as “The Slaughterer of Mosul” by locals.
