The catalyst that moved oil prices higher over the past two days, and which had overriden the "bad news" from the Doha talks failure, was the Kuwait oil workers strike announced over the weekend and which resulted in up to 1.6mmb/d in production being taken offline. As of moments ago, however, according to Kuwait's Aljarida press website, the strike appears to be over.

The Syrian parliamentary election on Tuesday was a vote of confidence by the people for their government. Syria’s ruling Ba’ath Party and its allies won the majority of the votes according to official results with 5,085,444 voters casting their ballots out of a possible 8,834,994 eligible voters. Press TV reports: The Syrian electoral commission announced late Saturday that the National Unity coalition, comprising the ruling party and its allies, had won 200 of the 250 seats at the People’s Assembly (Majlis al-Sha’ab).

The Pentagon has announced plans to launch underwater drones near the Spratly archipelago in what is a clear indication that the US has no intention to back down in the South China Sea, Washington has been expressing outrage over the past year over a series of land reclamation projects by Beijing in the highly contested region…of which the US has no claims.

Drones will be banned from large parts of London and Windsor while Barack Obama visits the Queen this week. Although the US president is renowned for his extensive use of military drones in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and elsewhere, the unmanned aerial vehicles will be banned from airspace over London and Windsor during his official visit to the UK on Thursday. RT reports: The ban comes after a civilian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) hit a passenger plane at Heathrow Airport on Sunday.
