What If Trump Wins?

Writing in The New Yorker, Evan Osnos has a long, provocative piece exploring what would likely happen in the event of a Trump presidential victory. He talked to a number of people involved in politics, government, economics, foreign policy, and so on, asking them practical questions. The answers would be sobering, if sobriety were a thing we did anymore.

Some uneasily pro-Trump Republicans assure themselves that Congress would put the reins on a President Trump. Not so fast:

MoD Apologise For Iraqi Boy’s Drowning At Hands Of British Soldiers

The Ministry of Defence said it is “extremely sorry” for the death of an Iraqi teenager who drowned after being forced into a Basra canal by four British soldiers. Fifteen year old Ahmed Jabbar Kareem Ali drowned in the Shatt al-Basra canal in May 2003 after he was detained by British troops on suspicion of looting near the Basra general hospital. He and three other suspected looters were forced into the water by the soldiers for a “soaking” but Ahmed got into difficulty and drowned.

The Latest on NY/NJ Bomber Rahami - "Sounds Of The Bombs Will Be Heard In The Streets. Death To Your Oppression"

Ahmad Khan Rahami was born in Afghanistan on January 23, 1988.  His family reportedly fled Afghanistan and came to the U.S. in the 90s.  According the Los Angeles Times, for most of his childhood and into his college years, Rahami led an "undistinguished American life" working "at his dad’s fried chicken restaurant, going to a local college and sometimes struggled with the bills."

Protests Erupt After Police Kill Black Man In North Carolina

Hundreds of people took to the streets in North Carolina after police shot and killed a black man while they were looking for someone else. Officers were serving a warrant for a different man at an apartment complex in Charlotte on Tuesday, but instead killed 43 year old Keith Lamont Scott who was reportedly disabled. The incident comes just one day after a white officer killed an unarmed black man in Oklahoma. ITV reports: Police said in a statement that the 43-year-old got out of his car holding a firearm and posed an “imminent deadly threat”.
