Protests Turn Violent As Donald Trump Becomes President

Protesters were blasted with tear gas after violence erupted across Washington ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony. Black clad protesters tore through downtown Washington, smashing store and car windows and symbols of capitalist America. Windows from a Bank of America branch, a Starbucks and a McDonald’s restaurant were among the targets. There were clashes with police in riot gear who used flash grenades, tear gas and pepper spray to subdue and arrest members of the crowd. Journalists covering the protest were among those who were arrested.

“Don’t Make Any Sudden Moves” is the advice offered to the new president by Richard Haass of the Council on Foreign Relations, which has not traditionally been known as a beer hall of populist beliefs.

Haass meant the president should bring his National Security Council together to anticipate the consequences before tearing up the Iran nuclear deal, moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem or shooting down a missile being tested by Kim Jong Un.

In an inaugural speech that appealed to the core tenets preached during his presidential campaign, tinged with an overtone of palpable anger and a suggestion of protectionism, Trump revisited the themes that brought him into the White House, and vowed to bring back jobs, fortify America's borders and restore America's wealth, while transferring power from Washington and giving it back to "you, the people."

President Trump’s economic plan will create 25 million new jobs in next decade, “return to 4 percent annual economic growth,” "lower rates for Americans in every tax bracket, simplify the tax code, and reduce the U.S. corporate tax rate” according to a statement just posted on the White House wesbite.

He has also proposed “a moratorium on new federal regulations and is ordering the heads of federal agencies and departments to identify job-killing regulations.”
