Brexit Is Bad For British Science Says Professor Hawking

Britain could lose out on European scientific talent and progress in future if it chooses Brexit and leaves the European Union, according to Professor Stephen Hawking and 150 other distinguished scientists. Tech Week reports: The UK should stay within the European Union as an exit would be a “disaster” for British science. This was the stark warning from 150 scientists of the Royal Society, including renowned physicist Stephen Hawking, who signed a letter to the Times newspaper.

Japan: Court Orders Closure Of Two Nuclear Reactors

A Japanese court has ordered the shutdown of two nuclear reactors due to safety issues.  The order, made by the Otsu District Court came on Wednesday just days before the fifth anniversary of the Fukushima atomic disaster The reactors to be closed are Kansai Electric’s No. 3 and No. 4 reactors at Takahama plant on the coast of Fukui prefecture. The court sided with residents who had filed a lawsuit against the operation of the two reactors over safety reasons.

Canadian Dies In Car Crash After Posting ‘Don’t worry I won’t speed’

A Canadian boxer died in a car crash with three friends in Dubai after splitting his rented Ferrari in two on impact with a lamppost. Cody Nixon, 24, from Toronto posted an online photo of himself and a sport car with the caption: ‘Just landed into Dubai and picked up the Ferrari! Don’t worry, I won’t speed’. Mail Online reports: Dubai Traffic Police Chief Colonel Saif Al Mazroui said the investigation said the man had managed to fit four people into the sports car, which was designed for only two.

Nuclear Reactor Shut Down In South Carolina After Explosions & Fire

A reactor at the Oconee Nuclear Station in South Carolina has been shut down after a series of explosions and a fire damaged a transformed on site. The operator said that the incident was “unusual” but declared there was no threat of radiation release. MoD Report Reveals Trident Radiation Blunders

According to a ministry of defence (MoD) report blunders at Britain’s nuclear submarine base exposed 20 workers to radiation The workers were exposed to radiation at the Faslane nuclear base in Scotland as a result of a safety breach, according to the newly released documents. RT reports: The MoD’s report covered four incidents between 2012 and 2013. It took the military two years to release the heavily redacted documents following Freedom of Information (FoI) requests.
