David Bowie Turned Down Honours From The Queen, Twice

David Bowie refused honours from the Queen twice during his remarkable career. It was confirmed yesterday that Bowie had died aged 69 following an 18-month-long battle with cancer. The Mirror reports: The Ziggy Stardust singer was offered a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 2000, which the Queen awards to those who have made “a distinguished, innovative contribution to any area” of British life.

Princess Cristina of Spain On Trial For Tax Fraud

Princess Cristina became the first member of the Spanish royal family to stand trial in a criminal court. On Monday, the 50-year-old sister of King Felipe VI, appeared in a court in Malta accused of tax fraud; a major embarrassment for the monarchy. She appeared alongside her husband, Iñaki Urdangarin and his business partners, who are accused of money laundering and tax fraud in a six million euros sports events embezzlement. The New York Times reports: Mr. Urdangarin and Cristina sat in the back of the courtroom alongside 16 other defendants during procedural arguments on Monday.

David Bowie Dies At 69

The legendary singer David Bowie died on Monday at the age of 69 from cancer. His son, film director Duncan Jones (also known as Zowie Bowie) confirmed the sad news on twitter and a statement was issued on his social media accounts. “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer,” it said, asking for privacy for his family. Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.

Did The CIA Recruit Actor Sean Penn?

Twitter was set ablaze this week as rumours emerged that Hollywood actor Sean Penn might be a CIA spy.  The actor met with one of the world’s most wanted drug lords, El Chapo, in the jungle shortly before he was apprehended by the Mexican military. Dailymail.co.uk reports: Supposedly the entire ‘clandestine horror show’ – as Penn put it – was part of a research project to develop a Netflix-style drama about Guzmán and his prison break.
