Civilians Trapped As Iraqi Army Advances Into Western Mosul

Up to 750,000 civilians are caught in the battle zone as Iraqi security forces push further into western Mosul routing ISIS fighters from the al-Tayyaran and al-Maamoun neighborhoods. Euro News reports: Backed by aerial support from the US-led coaltion, Iraqi forces launched a new push into Mosul from the west after declaring the other side of the city “fully liberated”. In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Federal Police Commandos Division moved into the Tayaran neighbourhood, which is now “under their full control”.

Until the 1990’s, civilian run volunteer militias weren’t all that common in the United States. They were the fringe of the fringe in our culture. But after Waco and Ruby Ridge, their ranks swelled and they became a common subject in the news and in pop culture.

Their numbers fell again under President Bush, and then grew to new heights under President Obama.

Israel has been caught on camera sending troops to a village located half a kilometer inside Syrian territory. Israel’s Channel 2 TV reported that the Combat Intelligence Collection Corps had dispatched its Ait (Eagle) 595 Battalion on repeated incursions early Sunday Press TV reports: The channel’s Danny Kushmaro, who was accompanying the troops in one of the missions, said the forces had reached the area on foot. He said they had managed to observe all developments and eavesdrop on conversations.
