Osborne Faces Commons Defeat Over Plans To Slash Disability Benefits

British chancellor George Osborne is facing the prospect of a politically damaging and financially costly U-turn as dissent within the Conservative Party grows over his plans to cut £4.4 billion from disability benefits. Osborne is now under pressure to compromise over his cruel plans to reduce Personal Independence Payments(PIP) to more than 600,000 people with long-term health problems. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has accused Mr Osborne of “declaring war on the disabled” and said he would be seeking to force a Commons vote as soon as possible.

US Troops Reprimanded Over Afghan Hospital Attack That Killed 42

The US military has disciplined over a dozen service members for the air strike on Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan, that killed 42 people last year. The U.S. has acknowledged that the clinic was struck 120 times by mistake. No personnel will face criminal charges, according to the Pentagon. The BBC reports: The Associated Press reported that the sanctions, which were not made public, were mostly administrative. Some received formal reprimands while others were suspended from duty.

North Korea Launches Ballistic Missile Into Sea Of Japan

North Korea has fired a ballistic missile off its east coast into the Sea of Japan. A South Korean defence ministry spokesman said the missile was fired from Sukchon in the country’s southwest at 5.55am local time on Thursday. The South Korean military said it was closely tracking and monitoring the situation and maintaining a readiness posture for any North Korean provocation. The launch has been confirmed by U.S. officials. RT reports: The rocket flew some 800 kilometers before plunging into the sea, according to Yonhap.
