Defeating ISIL in Iraq requires coordination between the Sunni tribes and the Shiite dominated Iraqi government. The problem is however that the U.S is empowering both the Shiites and the Sunnis and thus is able to direct the course of events. The Sunni tribes were the ones who defeated the original Al-Qaeda in Iraq and are now the ones capable of eradicating ISIL. They need to be free of the threat of sectarianism in order to free their own towns and villages. Cities like Fallujah have been destroyed and their population poisoned, first by the Americans using radioactive bombs and bullets and then by ISIL using anti-Shiite ideology. The Shiites and the Sunnis need to unite soon or there will only be fragments left of Iraq and neighboring Syria, and the process could be repeated around the Middle East, Asia and the far east, all the way to China, encompassing the Muslim population on Russia’s southern flank. ISIL are now moving eastwards towards Afghanistan and Pakistan rather than westwards towards Europe and the U.S. as the media wants people to believe.
