According to a new report from the National Partnership for Women & Families, 70% (251) of all abortion bills introduced between 2015-2016 in 37 states are built upon lies and disinformation ultimately designed to force women to keep babies they don’t want. These proposed abortion laws, which are based on lies and obfuscation about abortion procedures, the doctors who provide the procedures, and lies about why some women would choose to terminate their pregnancies have likely contributed to the public’s skewed and ill-informed views on abortion. These TRAP (Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers) laws are forcing abortion clinics to close down due to unnecessary restrictions. Some of these laws are not only forcing clinics to provide women with false information debunked by the World Health Organization, but also forcing clinics to make women, who have already made the difficult decision of choosing abortion, to endure unwarranted cruel, and oppressive procedures. The law found in Texas is currently being heard in front of the Supreme Court. “Lies are being turned into laws in states across the country, and it must stop.”
