Donald Trump’s UK State Visit Puts Queen In ‘Very Difficult Position’

Donald Trump’s planned state visit to the UK puts Queen Elizabeth in a “very difficult position,” a retired Foreign Office chief has warned. Lord Ricketts told BBC News that he was very surprised at the speed of Prime Minister Theresa May’s invitation to the US president. He also questioned whether Mr Trump was “specially deserving of this exceptional honour” describing the invitation as “premature” “It would have been far wiser to wait to see what sort of president he would turn out to be before advising the Queen to invite him” he added. RT reports: The former ambassador to France, who served as permanent secretary at the Foreign Office from 2006 to 2010, said it is unprecedented for a US president to be invited for a state visit in their first year in office. “Now the Queen is put in a very difficult position,” Ricketts said, speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today program.
