While I'm a professional, one of my hobbies is songwriting (see this). I wrote this song for Independence Day a couple of years ago.
The king’s menHave betrayed usTricked us out ofOur homes
No one elseGonna save usWe must stand upOn our own
DividedWe’ve been conqueredFor too longWe’ve played their game
UnitedWe’d be invincibleSo rise upAnd shake off our chains
We’ve been fooledBy the bankerThe sheriffAnd the priest+
We’ve been ruledBy the con menThe scoundrelsAnd the thieves
DividedWe’ve been conqueredFor too longWe’ve played their game
UnitedWe’d be invincibleSo rise upAnd shake off our chains
FeelThe powerStreaming outThrough our souls
Now IsThe hourCome togetherAnd let’s roll
Here we areIn the meadowIt is time toDecide
From afarThe army’s nearingAre we slaves orWill we fight?
DividedWe’ve been conqueredFor too longWe’ve played their game
UnitedWe’d be invincibleSo rise upAnd shake off our chains
FeelThe powerStreaming outThrough our souls
Now IsThe hourCome togetherAnd let’s roll
+Notes on the words:
I have nothing against priests. I'm only talking about corrupt priests and false prophets.
I have nothing against home town, Main Street bankers. I'm only talking about banskters.
When I talk about "the army approaching", I'm not talking about fighting our good men and women who honorably serve our country to protect and defend the Constitution and protect our national security. I'm talking about mercenaries who are fighting against the American people.
If you’re an atheist, think of "feel the power streaming out through our souls" as referring to our source of courage, or just change the last word to “soles”.
Notes on the music: The song has a feel like an old Irish fighting song. The drums are similar to U2’s “Bloody Sunday".
