A study has confirmed that 26 vaccinated Florida toddlers all got sick with whooping cough (B. pertussis) after receiving the DtaP vaccine in 2013. All of the children, aged one to five year olds, attended the Tallahassee preschool and had received four doses of the pertussis vaccine (DtaP) – according to official CDC recommendations.
Florida Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency in four counties where people have been confirmed as having the Zika virus. Nine people in total have been diagnosed with the Zika virus in Florida so far, and Governor Scott has warned that the virus is likely to spread even further. ABC News reports: The Aedes aegypti mosquito that is the primary vector of Zika virus infections is present in the southeast portion of the country, including Florida, though in winter the mosquito populations are low.

A professor who claimed that the Sandy Hook massacre was a staged conspiracy has been fired from his job at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). The professor claims that the school shooting which occurred in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012, was a hoax. He was fired for a technicality in his contract, and for not supplying details of his interests in certain internet blogs, or activities not in line with FAU policies. Sun Sentinel reports: The university sent a letter Tuesday to James Tracy, a tenured associate professor of communications, announcing the action.
