France Makes It Illegal To Drive Old Cars

France are to ban all cars registered before 1997 from July 1st, under new rules aimed at curbing smog and traffic problems in Paris.  Old cars are to be banned from Paris during weekdays, and all motorcycles registered before 1999 are to be barred from the roads too. Theverge.com reports: The ban was announced last year as part of an anti-pollution measure that will become progressively stricter in coming years. By 2020, the ban will extend to cover cars that were registered prior to 2010. Those who violate the rule can face a fine of up to €35 ($39), or €78 as of January 1st, 2017.

Six months after an Airbis A321 operated by Russia's Metrojet exploded shortly after takeoff from Egypt's Sinai peninsula en route to St. Petersburg, killing all 224 people on board in what was an ISIS-inspired terrorist attack, overnight there has been another aircraft-related tragedy when an EgyptAir flight carrying 66 passengers and crew on a flight from Paris to Cairo disappeared from radar over the Mediterranean shortly before landing, at 2:30am local time. Officials said they believed the jet has come down in the Mediterranean sea.

Violence Erupts Across France During May Day Demonstrations

Thousands of people across France took to the streets for the traditional May Day demonstrations on Sunday, but there was increased tension compared to previous years. Protesters clashed with riot police during at a May Day protest in Paris, held to demonstrate against labour reforms proposed by the French government and to commemorate International Worker’s Day. The French parliament is debating a bill that would allow longer working hours and let companies lay workers off more easily.
