How did we the people become "insouciant sheeple"? Firstly ending the military draft in 1973 after we left Viet Nam. At the hgt. of the war in 67 to 73, resistance, defiance, protests, demonstrations were the order of the day on college campuses. No longer. Ending the draft of college age men & women, that were @ the heart of the Vietnam war resistance, meant after '73 they have no personal stake in resisting our wars.
According to the latest survey from Gallup, this is the highest percentage of Americans to mention terrorism in a decade, although it is still lower than the 46% measured after 9/11.
Before 2001, terrorism barely registered as the most important problem facing the country.
