Distinguished economist Dr. Paul Craig Roberts warns that although the neoconservatives (neocons) have been discredited, they still have a dangerously powerful influence on US foreign policy. Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger has been reportedly advising US president-elect Donald Trump on pursuing the neoconservative agenda of pivoting toward China while bringing in Russia from the cold. Dr. Roberts, who served in the Reagan administration which saw the ending of the cold war, says president-elect Donald Trump is being guided by neocon advice and his decision could seal the fate of humanity and life on the planet. Roberts says neocons are dangerous. They use the threat of war to keep the military industrial/security complex in profit, not really meaning to actually carry out a war.
