The asylum policy that emerged from last month’s EU-Turkey negotiations - and that has already resulted in the deportation of hundreds of asylum seekers from Greece to Turkey - has four fundamental flaws.

First, the policy is not truly European; it was negotiated with Turkey and imposed on the EU by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

 

Second, it is severely underfunded.

Video shows a giant swarm of red crabs clambering over each other on the floor of the Pacific as they migrate to better feeding grounds. A team of scientists captured the phenomenon as they surveyed the ocean floor, more than a thousand feet below the surface in low-oxygen waters, using a manned submersible off the coast of Panama. UPI reports: “When we dove down in the submarine, we noticed the water became murkier as we got closer to the bottom,” Jesus Pineda, a biologist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and lead scientist on the recent expedition, explained in a press release.
