It is no secret that the relationship between the United States and China has been strained for quite some time. Earlier this month when the US sailed its guided missile destroyer the USS William P. China is about to send submarines armed with nuclear missiles into the Pacific Ocean for the first time, arguing that new US weapons systems have undermined Beijing’s existing deterrent force leaving them with no choice. Beijing points out that the US plans to station the Thaad anti-ballistic system in South Korea and develop of hypersonic glide missiles potentially capable of hitting China less than an hour after being launched.
