Mass Evacuations As Wildfire Engulfs Canadian City

A mandatory evacuation notice was issued for the whole city of Fort McMurray in northern Alberta, Canada on Tuesday after a raging wildfire began spreading uncontrollably The wildfire raged unchecked through the city of Fort McMurray overnight as authorities raced to complete the evacuation of its population of 80,000, fearing that hot, dry winds forecast for Wednesday would further fan the flames. We’re getting out. Fire seems to be crossing Highway 63.

Massive Fire Burns At Gateway Town To Alberta's Oilsands; 30,000 Evacuated

Residents of neighborhoods in the Canadian boomtown of Fort McMurray - considered the gateway to Alberta's oil sands as the Athabasca oil sands are roughly centered around the town - are under mandatory evacuation as a massive wildfire has jumped across Highway 63 and entered the city limits.  Homes have begun to burn in Fort McMurray as residents flee for safety from a blaze that’s doubled in size within a day.  More than 30,000 people have now been ordered to evacuate Fort McMurray communities.

CDC Investigates 97 Children Who Fell ill On Disney Ship

The CDC is investigating a sudden outbreak of a mysterious stomach bug aboard a Disney cruise ship this week that left 92 passengers ill.  The ship was carrying 2,700 passengers and 1,000 crew members as it left and returned to Miami last weekend. A spokeswoman for Disney said that the Disney Cruise Line implemented additional sanitation measures such as continuous cleaning of handrails since the illness struck. Self-service stations at buffets and ice cream stations were discontinued in order to limit passenger contact with food.

Sonic Booms Heard Across North England As RAF Scramble Fighter Jets

The loud bangs that were heard in the north of England on Monday evening were sonic booms from Typhoon jets scrambled to identify “an unresponsive civilian aircraft”, the RAF has said. Newcastle Airport confirmed that RAF aircraft escorted a flight operated with an Air France flight code, into the airport earlier this evening: “We can confirm flight AFR1558 from Paris, Charles De Gaulle was escorted into Newcastle Airport by RAF aircraft having lost communication with Air Traffic Control.

Bodies Of Climbers Alex Lowe & David Bridges Found In Melting Glacier

The remains of renowned American mountain climber Alex Lowe and his companion cameraman David Bridges have been found partially melting out of a glacier on Shishapangma, Tibet. The two climbers disappeared in a Himalayan avalanche 16 years ago while attempting to ascend the 14th highest mountain in the world. Alex Lowe’s widow put out a statement on Friday saying that the remains were discovered by two climbers attempting an ascend of the 26,291-foot mountain.
