The vicious attack on the Brussels airport and metro underscores the futility of focusing on the Syrian “Caliphate” as the epicenter of terrorism: as I’ve been saying in this space since 2001, the snake has no head. Both al-Qaeda and now ISIS are protean entities with a vast geographical spread, and what the Brussels attack – and, before it, the Paris attack – show is that they have successfully colonized Europe.

David Cameron like other Western leaders has remained silent after ISIS suffers its biggest military defeat in more than two years, following the recapture of Palmyra by Syrian government forces. The Russian embassy in the UK has actually publicly questioned why the British government has failed to address the retaking of Palmyra from ISIS militants. If the bad guys have been removed, why are they not celebrating? Isn’t that what they wanted?

ISIS Kidnap, Torture Then Crucify Catholic Priest On Good Friday

The Islamic Sate in Yemen allegedly crucified a Catholic priest on Good Friday. Father Tom Uzhunnallil was abducted from a retirement home where four nuns were shot dead among 16 killed on March 4 during a raid by ISIS gunmen. The Independent reports: There were fears of the Islamist group’s intention to kill Tom Uzhunnalil, who was believed have been kidnapped, after rumours circulated online suggesting he may be crucified around the holy festival. Mr Uzhunnalil is believed to have been taken from a retirement home in Yemen during an attack by Islamic extremists on 4 March.

That was the response from State Department spokesman Mark Toner when two reporters asked him whether the US was pleased that the Syrian army, backed by Hezbollah ground forces and Russian airstrikes was set to retake the ancient city of Palmyra from Islamic State.
