While average consumers might be more than happy transacting in dollars and holding investments in gold, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, a mathematician by training, believes bitcoin is superior to both as a medium and store of value for one crucial reason: Its mathematically determined supply of 21 million coins makes it impossible to dilute the existing supply, making it more secure.
Shares of cryptocurrency pioneer Overstock.com climbed more than 5% on Tuesday after the company revealed that it will launch an ICO on Nov. 1 using its proprietary tZERO platform, a strategy that will allow Overstock to raise capital without diluting its float.
As far as we can tell, the Overstock ICO would be the first conducted by a large, publicly traded US company, and could potentially open the door for other corporations to utilize the ICO as an alternative means of raising capital.
The offering will will run through Nov. 15, Overstock said.
After reports the iPhone 7 was outselling the iPhone 8 sent Apple’s stock lower on Wednesday, more troubling news about the company’s complication-plagued supply chain for the iPhone X, its special tenth anniversary model, emerged this morning courtesy of Nikkei, which is reporting the company has halved its planned shipments for the number of iPhone X’s it will sell by year’s end to 20 million.
