Spain is in political gridlock. The December 2015 election failed to produce a candidate who could put together a coalition. New elections are on June 26.

Supposedly, to “not interfere” with the election process, the European Commission turned a blind eye to the hugely out of control Spanish budget.

When I blew the whistle on the CIA’s illegal torture program, I was derided in many quarters as a traitor. My detractors in the government attacked me for violating my secrecy agreement, even as they ignored the oath we’d all taken to protect and defend the Constitution.

Debates over the US government’s foreign and economic policies have recently taken a backseat to the debate over what bathroom transgender individuals should use. The two sides of the debate both believe that government has the legitimate authority to tell private businesses who they should allow to use their facilities. Few on either side of this debate defend the right of private property owners to decide for themselves who may and may not use their bathrooms.
