The situation in hyperinflating socialist paradise Venezuela just moved one step closer to chaotic totalitarianism.

Russia has offered to send fire-fighting aircraft to assist Canada in dealing with the Alberta wildfire. Communications Adviser for Public Safety Canada, spokesperson Mylene Croteau, told domestic Russian-language news agency RIA Novosti on Friday, that Ottawa will review Moscow’s offer in due course. Sputnik reports: “We can confirm that we have received a letter from the Russian Federation offering their assistance,” Croteau said.

Clashes with police erupted as thousands gathered outside the Greek parliament in Athens to protest controversial new austerity measures. MPs in Greece voted in favor of new  measures, which will include pension cuts and tax hikes as well as new taxes on internet and TV.

U.S. officials have confirmed that a soldier lost his life fighting Islamic State militants in northern Iraq. This is the second casualty that the U.S. army has suffered in a week. Last week a Navy Seal was killed when ISIs attacked Kurdish forces in northern Iraq. It seems that the latest casualty was also a result of that attack. Fars News reports: “The soldier died as a result of an injury,” a brief statement issued by the US-led coalition forces said, without revealing further information on the incident, Alaraby news website reported.

London’s new Mayor Sadiq Khan has accused Prime Minister David Cameron and defeated Tory candidate Zac Goldsmith of maintaining a nasty, negative and divisive campaign during the recent mayoral elections. Khan says the conservatives set out to divide London’s ethnic communities by adopting Donald Trump style campaign tactics during an election that broke records, with a 45.6% turnout on Thursday. The Tories have defended their tactics. Chancellor Osborne called them a robust bit of “rough and tumble,” common in today’s politics and necessary for democracy.
