Syria has reported a widespread blackout across the entire country, with authorities currently scrambling to find out the cause of the outage.  Experts say that the power was cut in all areas across the country and said a potential EMP attack could not be ruled out. By midnight officials had begun restoring electricity in some areas, but were still unable to determine the official cause. BBC News reports: In most parts of war-torn Syria, electricity is already available only two to four hours a day, if at all. However, nationwide blackouts are rare.

The U.S. have announced harsh new sanctions against North Korea in a bid to avert World War 3 and prevent Kim Jong-un from firing missiles at America.  The White House say the measures are intended to make it almost impossible for the communist regime to build or acquire nuclear weapons, but have admitted that the sanctions could provoke a world war. Dailystar.co.uk reports: The standoff started when the rogue nation conducted its first successful atomic bomb test in January. Soon after, the sinister socialist state warned its weapons could wipe out the whole US at once.

Korea's official news agency reports North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has ordered the country's nuclear weapons be made ready for use. This action follows the firing of a volley of short-range projectiles into the sea to the south after the UN Security Council unanimously passed sanctions targeting North Korea’s banks, mineral exports and cargo vessels.
