Talking Trump’s Chances

This morning, I was on CNN’s “New Day” with Alisyn Camerota talking about Donald Trump’s chances to “run the table.” You can see a slightly truncated clip of the interview here.

Where the clip cuts off, I was saying that in this cycle, it feels like Republican voters seem much more interested in someone who stands against the existing GOP power structure than in ideological litmus tests.

France Announce Permanent Police State Until ISIS Is ‘Defeated’

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has said that France will keep its state of emergency status until ISIS have been completely defeated, hinting at a more permanent police state in France.  The emergency measures were initially introduced after the Paris attacks on the 13th November 2015. Police in France currently have extended powers to conduct raids and impose house arrests without a court order. BBC News reports: Mr Valls also warned that Europe’s migration crisis was now putting the European Union itself at grave risk.

Davos Man Meets Donald Trump

The lights are burning late in Davos tonight.

At the World Economic Forum, keynoter Joe Biden warned global elites that the unraveling of the middle class in America and Europe has provided “fertile terrain for reactionary politicians, demagogues peddling xenophobia, anti-immigration, nationalist, isolationist views.”

Evidence of a nationalist backlash, said Biden, may be seen in the third parties arising across Europe, and in the U.S. primaries. But set aside Joe’s slurs—demagogues, xenophobia.

Turkey ‘Cleansing’ It’s Kurdish Population – 200,000 Lives At Risk

Human rights watchdog Amnesty International has condemned the Turkish government, accusing authorities of putting the lives of 200,000 Kurdish residents at risk by deliberately starving them of food, medical care, and targeting them during military operations.  John Dalhuisen, Central Asia Programme Director for Amnesty, accused Turkey of targeting and punishing its Kurdish populations, “The operations currently being conducted under round-the-clock curfews are putting the lives of tens of thousands of people at risk and are beginning to resemble collective punishment“.
