Fox News reporter Doug McKelway was in attendance during yesterday’s deadly events in Charlottesville, VA, where he reported that the police were called off as soon as things started turning violent.

“But when the tear gas started to fly, thrown by protesters, the police themselves began to evacuate then. I asked the guy who was in charge, “Where you going?” He said, “We’re leaving. It’s too dangerous.” They had a chance to nip this thing in the bud and they chose not to.“

Update: A state of emergency has been declared for Charlottesville due to the "chaos" at the rally. As CBS reports, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency in the city to aid in the local response. He earlier said the Virginia National Guard will be "standing by to respond if needed." The city and county issued a declaration of local emergency for Charlottesville city and county, when the scene turned violent well before the "Unite the Right" rally, scheduled for noon, officially began.

Last October, we wrote about "Young Virginia Democrat" Andrew Spieles, a student at James Madison University, and apparently "Lead Organizer" for HarrisonburgVOTES, who got caught registering dead people to vote.  At the time, the founder of the organization, Joseph Fitzgerald, told reporters that he had no knowledge of Spieles’ actions and no idea "what his motivations were".

When it comes to gun control, no one is more hypocritical than liberal celebrities and politicians. While these people promote the end of gun rights for ordinary Americans, it’s often the case that they are protected in public and in their homes, by cadres of highly trained and armed bodyguards. They reap the benefits of the Second Amendment, while treating the rest of us like children who can’t be trusted with a gun.

Yesterday's Virginia shooting by the now deceased Illinois resident James Hodginkson rekindled the debate over, among other things, the proliferation of firearms, both legal and illegal, in the US.
