It's official: going forward all the biggest political announcements and developments will take place on Twitter. It's also official that, as of moments ago, Mitt Romney announced that he is not being nominated for Secretary Of State, confirming that if Kellyanne Conway launches a social media campaign to belittle and crush you, that is what will end up happening.
It was an honor to have been considered for Secretary of State of our great country. https://t.co/FC9tB7rdoy

On his Facebook page, Romney added:
It was an honor to have been considered for Secretary of State of our great country. My discussions with President-elect Trump have been both enjoyable and enlightening. I have very high hopes that the new administration will lead the nation to greater strength, prosperity and peace.
And to think that just 9 months ago Romney was tweeting the following:
Here's what I know. Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. (1/2)
— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) March 3, 2016
He's playing the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat. (2/2)

The take home message here is that at the end of the day, revenge - that of Trump at least - is a dish best tweeted.

Romney's announcement came hours after Trump announced that he would make his announcement on the next Secretary of State tomorrow morning...
I will be making my announcement on the next Secretary of State tomorrow morning.

... which, as Fox News confirmed earlier today, will go to Exxon CEO, and Putin friend, Rex Tillerson.
