Putin Decides Not To Expel American Diplomats Following US Sanctions

Putin has decided not to expel US diplomats in reprisal for Washington’s recent sanctions. The Russian president said he would not be expelling US diplomats in a tit-for-tat response to the White House’s decision to send home Russian officials accused of spying. “The new unfriendly measures by the US administration are regarded as provocative, designed to further undermine relations,” Putin said in a statement on the Kremlin website. “We will not create problems for U.S. diplomats. We will not expel anybody,” Putin added in the statement on Friday. As dozens of Russians have until Sunday to leave the United States, Putin said he would wait for the actions of Donald Trump, who takes office on Jan. 20, before responding. Press TV reports: Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov proposed to expel 35 US diplomats in retaliation for a similar move by Washington. The ministry also asked President Putin to ban diplomats from using a holiday home located in western Moscow and a warehouse in the north of the Russian capital in reaction to US President Barack Obama’s decision to close two Russian compounds.
