The US health watchdog has concluded that mounting evidence proves that the zika virus causes microcephaly in newborns. US health officials warned this week the Zika outbreak could have more of an effect on the United States and called for additional funding to combat the virus. RT reports: After months of scientific study, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that there is now enough evidence to clearly establish that the Zika virus causes microcephaly in the newborn offspring of infected mothers. To determine the cause and effect link between adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes, the team of scientists evaluated available scientific data. “On the basis of this review, we conclude that a causal relationship exists between prenatal Zika virus infection and microcephaly and other serious brain anomalies,” the report published by the New England Journal of Medicine said.
