Our Constitution was supposed to help prevent these sorts of behaviors by our government. Sadly, you might have guessed that I used The Bill of Rights as a starting point for the above list. I am certain that we can come up with many more examples in the comments below.
Finally, here is a warning to us from the not so distant past.
