New York Set To Be First State With 'Free' Tuition At Public Colleges

A last minute budget negotiation late Friday pretty much ensures that New York will be the first state to offer 'tuition-free' public higher education to its entitled snowflakes.  The $163 billion state budget agreement includes the Excelsior Scholarship, which covers tuition for any New Yorker accepted to one of the state’s community colleges or four-year universities, provided their family earns less than $125,000 a year.

The stock market may not be a casino, but 21 is the game of the day.  That’s how many House votes the Republicans can afford to lose from their own party and still pass the American Health Care Act on Thursday.  The cause of today’s sell-off is simple: there seems to be more like 25 “Nay” votes coming from the right wing of the GOP.  For what it’s worth, our two best sources in DC both think the bill will pass on Thursday and today’s Beltway theatrics were just par for the course.

Manhattan Luxury Housing In Freefall: J.Crew CEO Slashes Tribeca Loft Price By Over 40%

While in recent weeks we have documented various instances of sharp pullbacks in the ultra-luxury segment of New York's housing market (here, here and here), a dramatic example of just how sharp the drop in the high-end housing segment has been comes courtesy of Mansion Global which reports that J. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler has slashed a whopping $15 million from the asking price of his Tribeca loft after it languished on the market for close to two years, unable to find a buyer.

Trump Fires US Attorney Preet Bharara After Refusing To Resign

The speculation over whether Trump would or would not fire the US attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, who earlier reportedly said he would not resign on his own, came to a close a 2:29pm ET when Preet Bharara, tweeting from his private Twitter account, announced he had been fired.

"I did not resign. Moments ago I was fired. Being the US Attorney in SDNY will forever be the greatest honor of my professional life."
