Last week we highlighted another leaked document from the Department of Homeland Security allegedly detailing the costs and timeline of building Trump's border wall (see "DHS Report: Trump "Wall" To Cost $22 Billion, Take 3.5 Years To Build").  According to Reuters, the DHS report pegged the cost of the wall at $22 billion and estimated a construction timeline of 3.5 years.

When it comes to mindless excess in the war on terror, it is difficult to compete with the 70+ fusion centers bankrolled by the Department of Homeland Security. They began to be set up around the nation shortly after 9/11 as federal-state-local partnerships to better track terrorist threats. But the centers have been a world-class boondoggle from the start.

Having backtracked on its proposal to ban green card holders from 7 mostly Muslim countries from entering the US, it now appears that the Trump admin has softened its stance regarding the admission of refugees, and according to Reuters, citing an internal DHS document, the U.S. government has granted waivers to let 872 refugees into the country this week, despite Trump's executive order on Friday temporarily banning entry of refugees from any country.

Legal residents holding green cards will now be allowed legal entry into the United States. In an apparent attempt to reach a realistic compromise on President Trump's executive orders concerning immigration from countries compromised by terrorism, Secretary John Kelly from the Department of Homeland Security issued the following statement:

In applying the provisions of the president's executive order, I hereby deem the entry of lawful permanent residents to be in the national interest.

Homeland Security Ignores Judge, Continues Enforcing Trump's Travel Ban
