A Russian deep-sea fisherman has discovered alien-like creatures lurking beneath the ocean, and has posted his nightmarish finds on Twitter. While scientists admit that we know less about the sea here on Earth than we do about the surface of Mars (due to the fact that we’ve only seen 0.05 percent the ocean), the discovery of these bizarre creatures have still managed to surprise the scientific community.
A supervolcano in Italy is showing signs of reawakening and may be nearing a critical pressure point, according to a new study. The volcano located across the Bay of Naples from the famous Vesuvius, once saw one of the most destructive eruptions in European history. Scientists say that an eruption could put half a million people at risk. RT reports: Campi Flegrei, or the Phlegraean Fields, is a large volcanic area located in the metropolitan area of Naples, one of the most densely-inhabited areas in the world, with over 3 million people.
Nigerian authorities have intercepted a shipment of around 2.5 tons of fake rice, allegedly from China. Lagos customs chief Haruna Mamudu said the fake rice was intended to be sold in markets over the festive season as prices of the staple food are rocketing ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays. Health warnings have been issued and a suspect has been arrested. RT reports: The 102 bags of fake rice, weighing 25kg (a little over 50lb) each and labeled ‘Best Tomato Rice’, are thought by customs officers to have been smuggled in through the port in Lagos, according to AFP.

In a move that will likely be overturned promptly by the administration of Donald Trump, president Obama on Tuesday formally blocked offshore oil and gas drilling in most of the Atlantic and Arctic Ocean, responding to a call from environmentalists who say the government needs to do more to prevent drilling in environmentally sensitive areas of U.S.-controlled oceans.
