Should free speech cover criticizing the government? That is kind of the whole point, right?

An Oregon man is suing Portland for violating his first amendment right to free speech after he was fined $500 for calculating how long yellow lights stay yellow and then speaking publicly about it.

Free speech? No. The city considers making and disseminating calculations about public works “engineering without a license.”

The lawsuit states:

Oregon couple Jon and Sabrina Carey face criminal penalties unless they tear out a 2-acre pond that has existed on their property for decades, long before they bought it, because they don’t have any water rights to it. Who owns the rain? Apparently the US government.

A train towing cars full of oil derailed on Friday in Oregon's scenic Columbia River Gorge, sparking a fire that sent a plume of black smoke high into the sky. According to witnesses, multiple cars derailed and smoke and flames can be seen in downtown Mosier near the Rock Creek overpass. The train is operated by Union Pacific, who had not returned calls at the time.
