In 2025, the wealthiest people in America are more than business leaders—they’re media personalities, household names, and sometimes even political influencers.

As a result, today’s top billionaires are often controversial figures, dividing public opinion between admiration and criticism.

This infographic ranks the 10 richest Americans by their popularity, based on a nationwide survey by Reuters and Ipsos conducted in February 2025. The poll asked 4,415 U.S. adults whether they had a favorable view of the top 10 billionaires.

The Top 10 American Billionaires, Ranked by Popularity

The table below shows how the top 10 billionaires in the U.S. stack up by favorable and unfavorable ratings, as well as overall public awareness:

Rank Name Net Worth Favorable (%) Never Heard of Them (%) Did Not Answer (%) Unfavorable (%)
1 Warren Buffett $165B 52% 18% 3% 26%
2 Bill Gates $108B 49% 5% 3% 43%
3 Elon Musk $357B 39% 4% 3% 55%
4 Michael Bloomberg $105B 29% 29% 3% 39%
5 Jeff Bezos $221B 29% 13% 3% 55%
6 Mark Zuckerberg $216B 26% 7% 3% 64%
7 Steve Ballmer $119B 16% 65% 2% 17%
8 Larry Ellison $191B 13% 64% 3% 20%
9 Larry Page $142B 11% 69% 3% 17%
10 Sergey Brin $136B 9% 72% 2% 16%

Warren Buffett is the most-liked billionaire, with a favorable rating of 52%. Known for his investing principles, philanthropy, and frugal lifestyle, he also tops the list of the richest people in finance.

Bill Gates is almost equally popular among Americans, with 49% of respondents having a favorable view of the Microsoft founder. However, public opinion on Bill Gates seems divided, given his unfavorable rating of 43%.

Meanwhile, the three richest billionaires—Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg—are famous, but also the least popular on the list. While Musk is seen favorably by 39% of Americans, he also has an unfavorable rating of 55%, matching Jeff Bezos. Mark Zuckerberg is the least popular, with 64% of respondents viewing him unfavorably.

Given that the survey was conducted after Donald Trump took office in 2025, it’s likely that Elon Musk’s ratings were influenced by his outspoken support for Trump. His net worth almost certainly was, soaring to over $400 billion post-election.

The Billionaires Keeping a Low Profile

Despite amassing enormous wealth, some of the richest tech billionaires remain relatively unknown to the public.

In fact, roughly 70% of survey respondents had never heard of Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the two co-founders of Google. Ex-Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Oracle founder Larry Ellison saw similar ratings, both unknown to over 60% of respondents.
