In Japan there is not enough room to build crematoriums for dead people in the overcrowded cities. With a high death rate and an ageing population “corpse hotels” could provide a solution to relieve pressure on “funeral refugees.” A corpse hotel has been set up in Kawasaki, Japan, to temporarily house dead bodies while they await cremation. The prospect of having the dead living next door has upset some locals, however business is booming and the concept could expand nationwide. International Business Times reports: Many so-called corpse hotels have emerged as a flourishing business in the city following a crunch in crematoriums. Sousou, a building with a plain silver exterior and black draped windows which the neighbours call “creepy”, is one such corpse hotel located in a quiet residential area of Kawasaki. People living in the neighbourhood are upset due to the presence of the morgue and have staged protests with placards and banners, Reuters reported.
