Scientists Warn Of ‘Mega-Quake’ As Four Earthquakes Strike In 48 Hours

Four large earthquakes were recorded on Wednesday and Thursday this week, including one major earthquake in southern Japan which killed 2 people, as well as another in India where Royal couple Kate and William were visiting. Scientists have raised the alarm that the unusual number of quakes occurring at the moment could be a precursor to “the big one” – indicating that a cataclysmic mega-quake might be on its way in the next few days.  Scientists say that the above number of significant quakes across south Asia and the Pacific this year likely means that we are about to experience an earthquake the size of the Nepal quake of 2015 in which 8,000 people died. Express.co.uk reports: Roger Bilham, seismologist of University of Colorado, said: “The current conditions might trigger at least four earthquakes greater than 8.0 in magnitude. “And if they delay, the strain accumulated during the centuries provokes more catastrophic mega earthquakes.” Yesterday’s quake was followed by a 5.9-magnitude earthquake which struck off the coast of the southern Philippines. The earthquake happened at 2.20am (Singapore time) off Mindanao island. Local authorities said there was no tsunami risk and that they had not received reports of casualties or damage. Buildings [...]
